Last updated: July 29, 2026. Core editing is local-first. Connected features are optional and are described below.
1. Scope
This policy applies to the CutAway Android application and this website. It explains what information may be processed, why it is used, and the controls available to you.
2. Local projects and media
Your source video, images, imported audio, voiceovers, project files, and exports are stored on your device by default. Core editing does not require those media files to be uploaded to CutAway servers.
Android may grant the app access to media you select. Microphone access is requested only for voiceover recording. You can review or revoke permissions in Android settings.
3. Optional accounts and project sync
You can edit locally without an account. If you sign in and enable project sync, account identifiers and project information may be stored using Google Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore. Source media files are not uploaded to Firebase Storage by CutAway.
4. Optional cloud-assisted features
Some assisted features may require a network connection. Cloud processing is disabled until you provide consent in the app. When you request a cloud-assisted feature, the media or audio needed to perform that request may be sent to the identified service provider, such as OpenAI for cloud captions.
On-device tools process their inputs locally. Availability and processing method may vary by device capability and app version.
5. Diagnostics and usage information
CutAway may use Firebase Analytics to understand app usage and Firebase Crashlytics to diagnose crashes. These services may process app-instance identifiers, device and operating-system information, feature events, performance details, and crash logs. Crash reports are not intended to contain your source video or exported media.
6. Template and network requests
Browsing or downloading online template content requires network requests. Service providers may receive standard request information such as IP address, device network information, requested content, and timestamps.
7. Purchases
If you make an in-app purchase, Google Play processes the payment. CutAway receives transaction and entitlement information needed to provide the purchased feature, but does not receive your full payment-card details.
8. Content Credentials
When supported, an export may include Content Credentials or related provenance metadata describing the app and categories of edits. That information travels with the exported file and may be read by compatible software after you share it.
9. This website
This static website does not use an analytics SDK, advertising tracker, or server-side contact form. The contact form opens your local email application; the website itself does not receive or store the form contents.
10. Retention and deletion
You can delete projects from within the app and clear local app data through Android settings or by uninstalling. If you used account-based sync, contact us to request deletion of associated cloud account data. Some operational records may be retained where required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or transaction records.
11. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Information may be processed by service providers only as needed to deliver the features described above, including Google Firebase, Google Play, and providers used for cloud-assisted processing.
12. Children
CutAway is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Local law may set a higher minimum age.
13. Security and international processing
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Service providers may process information in countries other than your own, subject to their safeguards and applicable law.
14. Changes
We may update this policy as CutAway changes. The date at the top will be revised when material changes are published.
